Referrals
As part of our mandate, we want our home to have the best therapeutic environment for our youth. We take into consideration the needs of all our youth, our home set up, school options, and treatment options that are available when reviewing referrals. We want to ensure that we can provide a supportive environment for every youth. Phippen House sees its goal as long term placement, limiting any unnecessary transitions for youth that can be disruptive.
Phippen House specializes in Complex Special Needs which often includes vulnerable youth. This can make it difficult to support youth who exhibit more outwardly aggressive or violent behaviours. Our goal is to maintain a safe environment for all residents. Once a referral is made, the initial information is used to decide if the youth could benefit from our program. We will look at any assessments that have been done, programming, medication plan, school routines, etc. to make a final decision on placement. An intake package is then filled out with all the necessary information for transition into our home. Phippen House works together with families and can assist in seeking funding options and how to get started with the process of placing their child. For youth that are in care through Children’s Aid, any family access will be followed as outlined in the Plan of Care. Phippen House supports virtual and in person contact to keep the child and youth connected with their family.
